Our Proposals

Pause AI advocates for concrete measures to ensure that AI development is safe and beneficial for all of humanity. Here are our main proposals.

An International AI Treaty

We call for an international treaty on AI that establishes :

  • A moratorium on the development of AI systems more powerful than current frontiers, until adequate safety standards are developed
  • International verification mechanisms to ensure compliance with this moratorium
  • An international body responsible for coordinating AI governance, similar to the IAEA for nuclear energy

National Regulatory Framework

At the national and European level, we call for :

  • Mandatory safety assessments before deploying powerful AI systems
  • Strict transparency requirements on AI system capabilities and training data
  • Democratic accountability mechanisms for AI systems that affect citizens’ lives
  • Protection for AI safety whistleblowers who raise concerns about dangerous systems

Corporate Responsibility

We call on AI companies to :

  • Voluntarily pause the development of systems exceeding current safety thresholds
  • Invest in safety research at least as much as in capabilities research
  • Publish safety assessments independently verified before each major new deployment

Support for Affected Workers

A transition to a world with more powerful AI must be managed fairly :

  • Retraining programs for workers whose jobs are displaced by AI
  • Adaptation of social protection systems to respond to job losses caused by automation
  • Fair distribution of the economic gains generated by AI

Why These Proposals ?

These measures are not about stopping technological progress. They are about ensuring that this progress happens in a way that is safe, equitable, and subject to democratic control. The window to put these guardrails in place is closing — we must act now.
